Proverbs Challenge – Rerun

Hi All!

I’ll be running the Proverbs Challenge back for the month! The chapter was so full of lessons and wisdom that I really think running it back will work wonders. There’s no way i caught everything that the Lord has for me within a month span. Not only that, but I feel like I’ve gotten closer to Him through the initial go at the challenge and am sure my eyes & heart will be more open to receive all that it has for me this go round.

I’d first like to reiterate that the bible that i use is a spiral bible. This one in particular covers Job through Song of Solomon. It’s my preference because it’s perfect for taking notes and highlighting key points.

Jumping right into the chapter, I think that Proverbs 1:7 has got to be the most important verse of them all. “The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge…” Everything has to start somewhere & this verse let’s you know that He is the start to gaining wisdom. The foolish/unrighteous may despise wisdom and instruction but those who seek the Lord are open to instruction, understanding and living according to His will.

In Proverbs 1:8 it mentions that you should not only listen to Him, but also listen to your mother and father as well. I don’t know about you, but as for me… There’ve been quite a few times where my parents warned me about something and me thinking i knew it all did it anyway and it ended up turning out just as they said it would smh. If only I was as in the word then 🙌🏽 I could’ve saved myself a lot of heartbreak and trouble. ** I do think you need to use discernment on this verse. I’m sure we all know that not all parents are ones to 100% follow… But with God, you’ll know what to take and what to leave.**

Proverbs 1:10-16 Seems to really stress not falling into temptation. It gives examples of how someone can actually make falling into sin sound pretty darn enticing, but in the end, what they’re trying to talk you into ultimately ends up destroying your spirit and life.

Proverbs 1:17 says how even a bird that sees someone setting a trap for them knows better than to go near it, so you as one of God’s children should definitely be able to have the foresight to know when you’re being tempted to do something unrighteous and avoid it at all cost.

While this chapter heavily leans into how important it is to fear the Lord, gain wisdom and avoid temptation, in verses such as:

  • Proverbs 1:1-6 Wisdom
  • Proverbs 1:7 Fear the Lord-Wisdom
  • Proverbs 1:10 Temptation
  • Proverbs 1:11-16 Temptation
  • Proverbs 1:17 Temptation
  • Proverbs 1:20–21 Wisdom
  • Proverbs 1:23 Fear the Lord-Wisdom
  • Proverbs 1:24-30 Fear the Lord-Wisdom
  • Proverbs 1:32-33 Fear the Lord

It also touches on:

  • Not being greedy – Proverbs 1:19
  • Reaping what you sow – Proverbs 1:31

I highly encourage you to read the chapter in it’s entirety (as well as the others as the days go by) and feel free to share anything that you got from it as well as if you interpreted something differently.

-xoxo VANITY ANN
